Kinesio Taping Application - Circulatory/Lymphatic Correction

The Kinesio Strip is applied using a fan cut. The crisscross pattern of the technique is applied over the area of the edema and is adjusted as needed in subsequent applications. If the lymph duct nearest to the edema is non-existent or dysfunctional then re-direct the lymphatic fluid towards a viable duct using the anastomosis present in the lymphatic system.
1. Place anchor of fan cut slightly above the lymph node to which lymph drainage is being directed. Have the patient move into a stretch position if appropriate for area to be treated. In example shown, the knee is in extension and the ankle in dorsi flexion. Using the tear line, remove the small section of the tape backing. Place the base of the tape strip in the center of the spine about 2-3” below the base of the neck. Tilt your head forward and to the left. Begin applying the right tape tail up the right side of the neck. Be careful not to apply the tape tail over loose hair.
2. Apply the tails of the fan with 0-20% of available tension over area of edema.
3. The placement of the lymphatic strips are directed over the area of edema. The photo shows drainage from the area of the calf to posterior medial aspect of knee, location of the lymph node. After the first fan strip application pat or gently rub to initiate adhesive prior to any further patient movement.
4. The second fan is placed in such a position as to create a crisscross pattern over the area of edema. Fan tails are applied using 0-20% of available tension.
5. The second fan is placed in such a position as to create a crisscross pattern over the area of edema. Fan tails are applied using 0-20% of available tension.
